How the New Odyssey holmium laser system treats stone & soft tissue effectively?

The holmium laser wavelength is ideal for endourology. It is highly absorbed by water making it efficient and effective for disintegrating calculi in an aqueous environment or ablating tissue in contact mode.
The holmium laser effectively broadens endoscopy from a diagnostic to a therapeutic modality. Traditional concerns of lateral tissue damage due to a misdirected fiber is minimized because most of the laser energy is absorbed by the aqueous environment leaving almost no energy to damage surrounding tissue.
The Odyssey 30 patented variable pulse width and Fast-Rise-Time Top-Hat Waveform technology generates high peak power pulses for fragmenting calculi and generates longer exposure pulses for coagulation of soft tissue for maximum versatility in urinary tract applications.

Fast-Rise-Time Top Hat Waveform

The Odyssey proprietary control system replaces the highly inefficient Gaussian Waveform with the Fast-Rise-Time Top-Hat Waveform delivering zero to maximum peak power efficiently to break stones throughout the urinary tract.

The SMH-series fibers have been designed to mate perfectly with the Odyssey 30 laser system. When an SMH fiber is connected to the Odyssey, the system automatically detects the fiber type and modulates the power accordingly. SMH fiber assemblies can also be used with most SMA-905 compatible holmium and Nd:YAG lasers.
All SMH fibers can be re-used with proper handling. This means that you may re-process and re-sterilize the entire fiber assembly using either ethylene Oxide (EtO), Sterrad (H2O2) or autoclaving protocols.
